According to Ecuador’s national prison agency, the Servicio Nacional de Atención Integral a Personas Privadas de Libertad (SNAI), a large-scale disturbance unfolded at a penitentiary in the coastal city of Machala, resulting in the confirmed deaths of at least 31 incarcerated individuals.
